Hanukkah In The Spiral

November 27, 2011 Blaze Shadowhorn 3 Comments

We have many holidays that take part in the Spiral but the one that we don't have is Hanukkah. To be honest I find this somewhat rude that Wizard101 has (almost) every holiday except Hanukkah. I know that there are many Jews like me who play Wizard101 and there are always Christmas parties but why is there nothing related to Hanukkah? There was an attempted Hanukkah party two years ago but that never happened.

I sent Wizard101 Support an email regarding this and this is how it went:

Dear KI support,
In Wizard101 we celebrate Christmas but not Hanukkah. I myself celebrate Hanukkah as do many other Wizards. Sometimes we even organize Hanukkah parties. What I am getting at is that I think I speak for the Jewish W101 community When I ask of you to include something for Hanukkah. Maybe Hanukkah Harry, decorations, quests etc. If you ever needed help with Ideas I can help.
Thank you for your time.
Happy Holidays!

Now don't get me wrong. I am pleased with their response so I took their advice and went over to the Message Boards. For some reason I can't figure out how to post so I just found a post relevant to my email which is found here. It stated:

Ive always wondered why they dont have hanukkah in the game. Its a popular holiday so that means it should be in the game. If they do add hanukkah to the game, they could have a big manora next to the big christmas tree in the game, floating candles and blue and white lights every were. For pets they could have a candle pet called slick. Maybe even some quests to go along with it! I just think its unfair thatthey have christmas and not hanukkah. plz plz wizard101 add hanukkah in the game for the holidays. Post your comments about it if you like or dislike the idea.

Now I sent KI a reply email to read this instead of me posting so I hope they take that into consultation. I think it would only be right to incorporate Hanukkah because that way everyone has a bit of the Winter season. Heck the NPC could be Hanukkah Harry or Adam Sandler! Anyways thanks for reading my post and please leave a comment with your response to this idea.

Cya in the Spiral!

  1. I believe that the reason there is no Hanukkah is that it is more religiously themed. Christmas is not that commonly seen as a religious holiday. Its moreover a split. I know many many people (including myself) who don't celebrate Christmas for religious reasons. Also if they incorporated Hanukkah they would have to incorporate many other religious holidays as well. Which I don't Kingsisle would do because it would be a lot of work and if they didn't some people would start thinking the game favors some religions over others.

  2. I totally agree, but Christmas is a religious holiday, to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Honestly I don't know what Hanukkah celebrates but maybe the could incorporate a crafting quest to make the little spinning toy to educate us on Hanukkah and you have to beat a fire boss or whatever. But they would also have to make a holiday for Kwanzaa, maybe a crafting quest to create a the candle stand. I don't know but it sounds like a lot of work but doable.

  3. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one out here who agrees with you! We Jewish Wizards need something like this, alongside the Christmas stuff. I also agree with Justin on his quest ideas, as well as the Kwanzaa quest ideas.
Then again, Connor also has a point with more holidays to celebrate, so I'm sort of watching both ideas instead of taking a side.
Also, I worry that Xmas and Hanukkah celebrations might interfere. Not sure about Kwanzaa, but I'm still worried about holiday and quest interference. I'm glad you said something to KI though (Blaze).
I think I'll spectate this round.
